Attorney. Case files (1815-1989) involving attorney, Paul M. Niebell. The files are arranged by type and docket number. The cases involve law suits filed by Indian tribes and were tried before the Indian Claims Commission, the U.S. Court of Claims, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Niebell represented the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, Osage, Seminole, Wichita, Caddo, Cheyenne-Arapaho, and various other Indian tribes. Important cases in the collection include: Cherokee Nation v. U.S.; Cherokee Freedmen and Cherokee Freedmen's Association v. U.S.; Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations v. U.S.; Osage Nation v. U.S.; Creek Nation v. U.S.; Seminole Indians v. U.S.; Wichita Indians v. U.S.; Caddo Tribe of Oklahoma v. U.S.; and Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes v. U.S. The case files include briefs, petitions, exhibits, motions, opinions, proceedings, etc. The collection also contains minutes (1952-71) of the Creek Tribal Council.
